5 Scholars Named In Honor of Duke’s First African-American Student Government President

DURHAM, N.C. -- Five incoming first-year students have been awarded the Reginaldo Howard Memorial Scholarship at Duke University.

The award is given to students who embody the qualities of Reginaldo Howard, Duke’s first African-American student government president, including a commitment to academic achievement, leadership, community service and social justice.

The Reginaldo Howard Scholarship covers the full cost of tuition, room, board and mandatory fees for four years of undergraduate education. In addition, Reggie Scholars have access to generous funding for domestic and international experiences, including opportunities for independent research both in the summer and during the academic year.

The full value of each scholarship is estimated to be approximately $315,000 over four years.

The Class of 2025 recipients are:

• Alyssa Gabbidon from Goffstown, New Hampshire, a graduate of Goffstown High School
• Mya Harris from Florissant, Missouri, a graduate of Pattonville High School
• Ana Herndon from Powder Springs, Georgia, a graduate of Campbell High School
• Lauren Relaford from Glen Allen, Virginia, a graduate of Glen Allen High School
• Elijah Williams from the Bronx, New York, a graduate of Collegiate School
