12 First-Year Students from Carolinas Receive BN Duke Scholarships

High academic achievement, commitment to community service among criteria

DURHAM, N.C. -- Twelve incoming first-year students from North Carolina and South Carolina have been awarded the Benjamin N. Duke Memorial Scholarship at Duke University.

The Benjamin N. Duke Scholarship is given to students from the Carolinas who have demonstrated high academic achievement, a commitment to community service and potential for leadership.

The award covers the full cost of tuition, room, board and mandatory fees for four years of undergraduate education. In addition, B.N. Duke scholars have access to generous funding for domestic and international experiences, including opportunities for independent research both in the summer and during the academic year. The full value of each scholarship is estimated to be approximately $315,000 over four years.

The scholarships were established by The Duke Endowment to honor Benjamin Newton Duke, noted philanthropist and supporter of Duke University.

The Class of 2025 recipients are:

  • Jada Allen from Lumberton, North Carolina, a graduate of Lumberton High School
  • Harper de Andrade from Durham, North Carolina, a graduate of Riverside High School
  • Chloe Decker from Murphy, North Carolina, a graduate of Murphy High School
  • Sonia Green from Durham, North Carolina, a graduate of Hillside High School
  • Mahika Jammula from Simpsonville, South Carolina, a graduate of J.L. Mann High School
  • Riya Kabra from Morrisville, North Carolina, a graduate of Raleigh Charter High School
  • Monica Lindsey from Easley, South Carolina, a graduate of Wren High School
  • Sirena Lovato from Winston Salem, North Carolina, a graduate of Ronald Wilson Reagan High School
  • Oludamilola “Dami” Olatosi from Elgin, South Carolina, a graduate of Hammond School
  • Yadira Paz-Martinez from Clinton, North Carolina, a graduate of Sampson Early College High School
  • Brycen Redmond from Swansea, South Carolina, a graduate of Airport High School
  • Akhilesh Shivaramakrishnan from Charlotte, North Carolina, a graduate of Concord High School
