A Duke University graduate has been included in President Donald Trump's list of nominees he's considering for the U.S. Supreme Court.

Earlier this month, Sen.Thom Tillis applauded Trump "for including Allison Jones Rushing in the updated list of potential Supreme Court nominees."
Now, just weeks later, the Hendersonville native is considered one of the strongest contenders after the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

It will be a woman," Trump said during a rally in Fayetteville on Saturday.

Judge Jones Rushing is a Wake Forest University and Duke Law graduate.

In 2018, President Trump nominated her to the 4th U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which represents West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia and the Carolinas.

Last march, NBC News reported that Rushing has ties to the anti-gay organization called The Alliance Defending Freedom, or ADF.
On its website, ADF stated "marriage is defined as the lifelong union between a man and a woman." The Southern Poverty Law Center designated ADF "a hate group" for its anti-LGBTQ ideology.

Jones Rushing has not publicly spoken out.

Other top contenders on that list of potential nominees is Amy Coney Barrett and Amul Thapar.
