DURHAM, N.C. — Cameron Indoor Stadium, one of the loudest sports venues in the country, has added new features to help fans who could use a break from the often overwhelming environment.

  • Cameron Indoor Stadium partnered with KultureCity to become sensory inclusive
  • Attendees with autism, anxiety, PTSD, and other similar conditions can use designated quiet rooms or pick up sensory bags to help them relax
  • University plans to make Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium sensory inclusive in 2020

This season, Duke Athletics partnered with the non-profit 'KultureCity' to make Cameron Indoor, sensory inclusive certified.

Now, children and adults with autism, anxiety, PTSD, and other similar conditions, can use a designated quiet room during the game or pick up a sensory bag with noise canceling headphones and fidget toys to help them relax.

Krista Shalda attended Saturday's game versus Brown.

She says her child has autism and the new features help ease his stress.

"For someone with sensory issues it's a lifesaver because to be able to come into a room and take a break when it's so loud out there his whole body gets overwhelmed, so to be able to come in and here and kinda reset it allows him to go back in and enjoy the rest of the game," said Shalda.

University officials say Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium, where the Duke Football team plays, will become sensory inclusive in 2020.
