‘Reggie Scholars’ Embody Qualities of Duke’s 1st African-American DSG President

Scholarship covers the full cost of tuition, room, board and mandatory fees for four years of undergraduate education

Seven incoming first-year students have been awarded the Reginaldo Howard Memorial Scholarship at Duke University.

The award is given to students who embody the qualities of Reginaldo Howard, Duke’s first African-American student government president, including a commitment to academic achievement, leadership, community service and social justice.

The scholarship covers the full cost of tuition, room, board and mandatory fees for four years of undergraduate education.

In addition, Reggie Scholars have access to generous funding for domestic and international summer experiences, including opportunities for independent research both in the summer and during the academic year.

The full value of each scholarship is estimated to be more than $315,000 over four years.

The Class of 2023 recipients are:

  • David Radvany-Roth of Boca Raton, Florida, a graduate of Pine Crest School;
     
  • Eric Huey of Tupelo, Mississippi, a graduate of Tupelo High School;
     
  • Hannah Shuffer of Pepper Pike, Ohio, a graduate of Orange High School;
     
  • Kevin Wiafe of Bethany, Oklahoma, a graduate of the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics;
     
  • Leena Mohamedali of Plano, Texas, a graduate of Harmony Science Academy-Carrollton;
     
  • Nia Williams of Clarksburg, Maryland, a graduate of Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart;
     
  • Sydney Hunt of Cornwall, New York, a graduate of Cornwall Central High School.
