Medieval Philosophy Conference to Honor Mahoney
Upcoming conference will honor late professor of philosophy

Durham, NC -- The Department of Philosophy is sponsoring a Nov. 6-7 conference to honor the late Edward P. Mahoney, Duke professor emeritus of philosophy.
Mahoney, who died this year on January 8, specialized in late medieval and Renaissance philosophy, contributing significantly to research on the “Great Chain of Being,” late medieval philosophy and Renaissance Aristotelianism. Mahoney taught philosophy at Duke for more than 40 years.
To honor Mahoney’s life and intellectual contributions, the conference will discuss metaphysics and psychology in Late Medieval and Renaissance philosophy. Scholars from Harvard University, Wesleyan College, Boston College, the University of North Carolina and other institutions will attend.
The Divinity School, the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies and the Department of History are co-sponsors.
