News Tip: Duke Experts Available to Comment on Ramadan, Muslim Traditions, and American Muslims

Ramadan, the holy month of Islam, began Saturday. The following Duke University faculty members are available to comment on Muslim religious traditions and American Muslims.

Abdullah Antepli is Duke’s first Muslim chaplain. He is the founder and executive board member of the Muslim Chaplains Association and a member of the National Association of College and University Chaplains. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member in Duke Divinity School and teaches introductory courses on Islam.

Jen’nan Read is an associate professor of sociology and global health at Duke. Read is a Carnegie Scholar currently studying the political integration and activity of U.S. Muslims, and is author of “Culture, Class and Work Among Arab-American Women” (LFB Scholarly Publishing, 2004).
