Duke Chapel Concerts Bring Holiday Spirit

Durham, NC -- The holiday season is here, and several concerts will be held at Duke Chapel to help get the Duke community into the spirit.
During December, performers from Duke University and around the state will come to campus to share their love for music, so come by to hear your favorite holiday tune. The list of events is highlighted by the 75th performance of “Messiah” by the Duke Chapel Choir and Orchestra. The performances, which begin tonight, feature a choir of 130 students, faculty, staff and Durham residents.
Schedule
Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m., 6 at 2 p.m. and 7 at 3 p.m.
The Duke Chapel Choir and Orchestra perform Handel’s Messiah.
Cost: $15 for adults, $5 for non-Duke students and children over the age of 12. Children under 12 are not admitted. The event is free for the first 300 Duke students, $5 for each Duke student after.
Dec. 13 and 14: 8 to 10 p.m.
The Choral Society of Durham will hold two Christmas concerts performing Christopher Rouse's Karolju plus American carols.
Cost: $20 for adults and seniors and free for students. Tickets can be purchased through the Duke University Box Office at 684-4444 or at the door with cash or check.
Dec. 15: 7:30 p.m.
The North Carolina Boys Choir presents its Christmas concert. The choir is made up of boys ages 9 to 14.
Cost: $12 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased at the door one hour before the performance, by calling 489-0291 or e-mailing samann@earthlink.net.
Dec. 16: 12:30 p.m.
Greensboro’s Peeler Open School for the Performing Arts will present holiday orchestral music by its elementary school students.
Cost: Free
Dec. 18: Noon
Duke Chapel will hold its annual open house for Duke faculty, staff and the public
Dec. 22: 7 p.m.
Duke Chapel will host an open rehearsal for all singers to sing in the Christmas Eve Community Choir.
Cost: Free
Services on Christmas Eve will also include carols at 5:30 and 11 p.m.
