Durham, NC -- Enjoy a local vegetarian or chicken delight along with exquisite Hillsborough artisanal cheeses and freshly baked bread as part of a March 25 program on sustainable dining sponsored by the Nicholas School’s Farmhand program.
The dinner will include a lecture by guest speaker William Weida, president of the Socially Responsible Agricultural Project. Weida will speak on “The Economic Effects of Factories on Rural Communities.” The event will begin at 7 p.m. at the Refectory Café in the Divinity School.
Tickets cost $10 and will be sold up to Monday, March 24, from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. in Hug Commons (LSRC). Tickets also can be purchased by e-mail through John Kerkering.
Weida recently retired as professor of economics and business at The Colorado College, where he specialized in regional economics, statistics, and econometric modeling. He has published a large number of articles, written four books, and contributed chapters to four others--all of which deal with the regional economic impact of large projects. In addition, he has spent the last 15 years providing advice to communities and regions on the impacts of various forms of economic development.
The Socially Responsible Agricultural Project assists communities that are evaluating industrial agricultural projects. Members of the project act as an expert witness in permit hearings and provide analysis of facility engineering, economic impacts, nutrient management calculations, water use, and community impacts.
