Message to the President of Northern Illinois University
President Richard H. Brodhead sent the following message Friday to NIU President John Peters in response to Thursday's tragic shooting incident.

Durham, NC -- Dear President Peters,
On behalf of the students, faculty and staff of Duke University, I extend my condolences to the Northern Illinois University community and to the families of your deceased students. It is difficult to find the words to express the depth of the sympathy we feel and the support we offer to our colleagues in DeKalb. Please know that you and they are in our thoughts.
