Thelma Bullock, a former Duke South clinical labs employee, died Feb. 11.  Bullock worked at Duke from 1955 to 1992.

Esther P. Simmons, a former dining employee, died Feb. 18.  Simmons worked at Duke from 1961 to 1976.

Ovid Houston III, a former medical center maintenance employee, died Feb. 18.  Houston worked at Duke from 1971 to 2006.

Emily Werrell, a coordinator in Duke Libraries’ Instruction & Outreach unit, died Feb. 20.  Werrell began working at Duke in 2001.

Susan Clark, a strategic services associate for the chancellor for health affairs, died Feb. 21.  Clark started working at Duke in 1974.

Lloyd Borstelmann, a longtime member of the Duke University Psychology Department, died Feb. 23.  Borstelmann taught at Duke from 1953 to 1986.

William Baker, a retired DUMC design office employee, died Sept. 26.  Baker worked at Duke from 1970 to 1986.

Willie Patterson, who worked in Lab Animal Resources, died on September 2, 2007. Patterson had worked at Duke from 1966 to 1987.

Joshua Warren, a senior research associate in the Biochemistry Department, died on September 2. Warren had worked at Duke since 2001.

Margaret Dixon, who worked in Material Support, died on September 4, 2007. Dixon worked at Duke from 1956 to 1987.

Jerry Rimmer, who worked in Facilities Management, died on September 9. Rimmer had worked at Duke since March, 2007.

Josephine P. Sherman, who worked at the Duke Credit Union, died on September 9, 2007. Sherman was employed by Duke from 1971 to 1989.

Caroline Welz-Voegele, who was a laboratory manager in Molecular Genetics & Microbiology, died on September 12. Welz-Voegele had worked at Duke since August, 2006.

Gloria Reid, who worked in Ischemia-Support-DCRI, died on September 15. Reid had worked at Duke since 2005.

John Leslie Artley, professor emeritus of electrical engineering, died on Sept. 27.  He joined the faculty in 1955 and retired in 1980.

August 2007

Dorothy Fenner, who worked in Environmental Services at DUHS, died on August 7, 2007. Fenner was employed at Duke from 1980 to 2003.

Johnsie Carrington, who worked in Housekeeping on the West Campus, died on August 23, 2007. Carrington had been employed at Duke from 1967 until 1992.

Marie Scoggins, who worked in Environmental Services, died on August 30, 2007. Scoggins had been employed by Duke from 1970 to 1993.

Marcy Speer, who was the director of the Center for Human Genetics at Duke University Medical Center, died on August 4. Speer joined the Duke faculty in 1985.

Todd Johnson, who worked in Vascular Interventional Radiology, died on August 4. Johnson worked at Duke since 2006.

Elizabeth Clipp, a professor of nursing, died on August 5.  Clipp joined the Duke faculty in 1985

Dorothy L. Collins, who worked in the Delivery Room, died on August 10. Collins was employed by Duke from 1966 until her retirement in 1988.

John Richards, a professor of history, died on Aug. 23. Richards joined the Duke faculty in 1977.

July 2007 

Rachel Jones, who worked in Medical Center Housekeeping, died on July 12, 2007. Jones was employed at Duke from 1947 until 1980.

Charlotte Corbin died on July 13, 2007. Corbin was employed in Alumni Affairs from 1935 until 1977.

Sylvia Nelson, who worked in radiology, died July 29. Nelson had worked at Duke since 1991.

Christine Smith, who worked in Central Pharmaceutical, died on July 2. Smith worked at Duke from 1968 to 1984.

Alberta D. Middlebrooks, who worked at Sea Level, died on July 3. Middlebrooks worked at Duke from 1966 to 1983.

Lauralyne Thrope, who worked in Pathology, died on July 6. Thrope worked at Duke from 1962 to 1991.

Gary G. Bateman died on July 16. Bateman worked in the Maintenance Department from 1973 to 1988.

James H. Cash died on July 16. Cash worked on vending machines for Duke from 1955 to 1995.

James A. Brown died on July 20. Brown had been employed by Environmental Services/Parking Garage since 1984.

Ruth H. Wagner, who worked in the Mail Room, died on July 22. Wagner worked at Duke from 1956 to 1978.

Sheryll Snider, who worked in pathology, died on July 25. Snider had been employed by Duke since 1973.

Gail Novick, an employee with Staff and Family Programs, died on July 29. Novick had worked at Duke since 1979.
